The Norwegian Red Cross is seeking an Advisor for a temporary junior software development postion in the department for International Programmes and Preparedness.
The position has an initial duration of 1 year, with the possibility for extension.
The purpose of the software developer role is to support the maintenance and further development of the Community Based Surveillance application Nyss. The Nyss application allows for real-time detection, reporting, aggregation, and analysis of information on community health risks, which helps health authorities act faster and save lives. The platform supports Red Cross volunteers, staff and delegates across the world, from local to global levels, in decision-making for epidemic response based on reliable information.
Responsibilities
Operational responsibilities:
- Make best effort to write clean, efficient and resilient code for new functionalities in NYSS and maintenance of the codebase.
- Test the codebase and functionalities.
- Write and maintain solid documentation of the platform, for both end users and developers.
- Collaborate with field colleagues and end users to transform feedback to production-ready features for release.
- Provide technical support for implementations of Nyss as needed.
- Present the Nyss application in technical and strategic discussions internally and externally when needed.
- Coordinate relations with internal and external technology partners, stakeholders and vendors.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal partners and stakeholders, particularly the Norwegian Red Cross's IT department and key teams and departments in the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) Secretariat (e.g. ICT, Information Management, and legal teams) to promote a coordinated approach.
Collaboration:
- Collaborates closely with relevant Norwegian Red Cross and other Red Cross/Red Crescent (RCRC) staff in Regional and Country Offices to support the implementation of NYSS.
- Collaborates closely with the IT department to ensure that the development and implementation of NYSS is in accordance with Norwegian Red Cross’ IT regulations and procedures.
Qualifications
Education
- Relevant education from university or college (Computer Science, engineering etc.). Relevant work experience may compensate.
Personal qualifications, skills and knowledge:
- Proven experience as a back-end and front-end Software Developer.
- Knowledge of programming language C#.
- Familiar with cloud technologies and DevOps process.
- Knowledge of relational databases MSSQL and using ORMs and RDBMs migration.
- Familiar building UI with React and Redux.
- Familiar with web services and Microsoft web development technologies.
- Familiar with GIT repository.
- Willingness and ability to adapt to changing requirements. The domain context can be quite volatile, sometimes we have to adapt to new requirements quickly.
- Excellent communication and team-working skills in a multicultural context with a lot of remote collaboration. International work sometimes requires work outside of regular working hours.
Language skills:
- Fluent written and oral skills in English.
