Join our oncology team in Bodø! 
We are enhancing our team within the department of oncology and palliative care. We are seeking a consultant (100% full-time permanent position) with expertise and interest in radiotherapy. 

Who we are: 

The department of oncology and palliative care consists of a multidisciplinary team including doctors in oncology, haematologic and oncology unit, a radiation therapy unit, a palliative care team, and Vardesenteret (a support center for patients and caregivers). We are an expert team with 9 Consultants (including a radiation physician) and 2 specialist physicians, with 1 physician attached to the palliative team.

The radiation therapy unit is made up of a planning floor and a treatment floor. On the planning floor, we have our own CT and treatment planning stations. On the treatment floor, we have two linear accelerators with integrated X-ray imaging. The unit currently employs ten radiation therapists, a radiographer, three medical physicists, one oncology nurse and physicians. We also have two medical engineers attached to the unit. 

Three of our physicians have secondary positions at Tromsø University, and the department offers good research opportunities. We maintain close cooperation with the Oncology Department at the University Hospital of North-Norway and other departments at Nordland Hospital and Helgeland Hospital. The department offers oncological treatment and follow-up to cancer patients in large areas of Nordland (catchment area population 210 000). 

About our radiation therapy services: 

  • We have two modern linear accelerators and offer both palliative and curative radiation treatment (VMAT, IGRT, IMRT, SBRT) 
  • We presently provide curative breast radiation and both radical and palliative treatment for several tumour groups 
  • Our ambition is to expand the indications and techniques we provide, and we are looking for a colleague who wishes to join us on our development path

Tasks and duties:

In our department, you will have varied responsibilities and tasks, including: 

  • Planning and implementation of radiotherapy in collaboration with radiation physicists and radiation therapists 
  • Contribute to further development of our radiation therapy services, including implementation of new techniques and treatment protocols 
  • Concomitant medical oncological treatment and follow-up of patients 
  • Participation in multi-disciplinary teams/MDT meetings 
  • Instruction of physicians in training and other health personnel 
  • Opportunity to participate in clinical studies and research projects 

Qualification requirements: 

  • Authorised specialist in oncology with documented experience or particular interest in radiotherapy 
  • Experience in planning and evaluation of radiation treatment is an advantage 
  • Interest in and/or experience with clinical studies 

Language Requirements: 

  • You must speak fluent English
  • Norwegian language skills are not required at the time of hiring. However, you are expected to learn Norwegian as part of your role. We will provide support and resources for Norwegian language training

  • Ability to communicate clearly and adapt complex information 
  • Good professional evaluation skills and ability to work in a targeted and structured manner
